Topsham was a hopping place on this Saturday morning, and the Saturday morning market seemed to be as much a social gathering place as it was a market. We revisited our friend in the bakery, to pick up lunch for on the train) and then headed to Topsham station to await our train into Exeter.
We had lots of time for our transfer at Exeter St. David, and nobody was sitting in our reserved seats on the train to Penzance, although a group of beer-swilling football fans made it difficult to even get into our carriage. It was a popular train, and almost every seat was occupied. For a large part of the journey we had to endure a crying and complaining child, which was not so great....the family's 2 dogs were better behaved than the children.
Our accommodation in Penzance is right over the road from the harbour, and has great views out over the bay towards Michael Mount (the fortified island in the photo below). We have two bedrooms, two bathrooms, full kitchen and a washer / dryer....luxury!!
After settling in, we set off into town to pick up a few essential groceries, walking up Chapel Street to the centre of town. Chapel Street is one of the oldest streets in Penzance, and has some great looking old buildings.
We watched the Scilly Isles ferry come into harbour while eating dinner, and then caught up on the news of the world, before turning in.
Tomorrow we start a whole new adventure.
