Lugo to Segovia (Tuesday, October 7th)

This morning we left Lugo for Segovia.  Marlene and Marty had time for one last walk around the wall, and I managed to snap them as they passed the hotel window.

We thought that we had food all sorted out for the train....we had found a store yesterday that sold baguettes with cheese and other fillings and they opened at 9:30 am, which fitted our schedule, but when we got to the store at 9:45 am there was no sign of a baguette or any fillings. I guess they come later in the day.  So we stopped at the grocery store and bought buns, cheese an bananas enroute to the railway station.

The train trip was 6 1/2 hours, but we did pass through some interesting areas.  At one point we were high in the mountains, it was cloudy and the temperature dropped to 12 degrees, but later we were on a more arid plain (it looked like Saskatchewan) and the temperature was up to 25 degrees.  Most of the trip was done at around 100 km/h, but towards the end we got up to 236 km/h. I tried taking photos out the train window, but they were just a blur. But I did manage to get a photo of one of the stations that we stopped at.

We had our first Spanish bus experience today, from the station to town in Segovia....twenty minute ride for 1.03 euros, so good value, and a modern, comfortable bus.

Our first views of Segovia were impressive as we were dropped off at the aqueduct, built by the Romans.  I am sure that we will learn more about it over the next few days and get some better photos, but I have added a couple, just to whet your appetite.

So now, a little sleep and then we will explore Segovia.
